'We hope Dr Pragya feels supported by our city' Albert Dock responds to woman told to 'go back where she came from'

The Royal Albert Dock has spoken out after a woman was reportedly left holding back tears after a trip to an unnamed restaurant on the waterfront.

Dr Pragya Ararwal said she was rudely spoken to by an elderly couple who told her to “get your children to shut up or go back where you came from”.

The social psychologist tweeted about the exchange which prompted a flood of messages from people across the city - including former footballer Neville Southall and popular restaurant Maray .

A spokesperson for the Royal Albert Dock said: “Royal Albert Dock do not condone any racist slurs on visitors to our attraction which is at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“We welcome millions of visitors from all over the world and pride ourselves on our welcome, as does the City of Liverpool, which has been voted both the kindest and friendliest UK city in past years.

“Albert Dock tenant Maray stepped in last night to offer a table for Dr Pragya and her family, which she has kindly offered to the homeless.

“We hope Dr Pragya feels supported by our city.”

The city of Liverpool has already shown tremendous support for Dr Pragya, with Maray even offering the doctor and her family a table at its Albert Dock restaurant, free of charge.

More comments have flooded in as the day has gone on, with the dock’s The Nest adding to the kind gestures and offering a free piece of artwork to “remind you of the good”.

On the gestures made by Liverpool businesses, Twitter user @jcpud said: “Now that’s the Liverpool I know and love! I’m so sorry this happened to you and your family, and I hope your meal has you smiling all weekend”.

@CollyRetro added: "Oh my God, just awful. Apologies on behalf of a city that welcomes millions of visitors from many countries, where many thousands of people from all around the world have made Liverpool their home.

"Don’t let those pair of old idiots put you off coming coming back".
