'We have to learn' - Fabinho sounds 'dangerous' Liverpool warning as striker return welcomed

Fabinho has urged Liverpool to learn from the mistakes of their most recent meeting with Brentford - as he welcomed the return to action of Roberto Firmino.

The Reds were held to a 3-3 draw at the promoted side back in September when they twice fell behind and then allowed a lead to slip in the final 10 minutes.

Brentford made the most of Liverpool having difficulty defending their direct approach with it the second of nine times this season Jurgen Klopp's side have shipped two or more goals in a match.

And Fabinho knows there cannot be a repeat when Thomas Frank's side visit Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

"We played good and scored three goals and usually when we score three goals that means we win the game, because defensively we are good," said the midfielder.

"But they created good chances. We struggled a little bit with long balls and our aerial balls, but we created a lot and had the opportunity to win the game.

"We have to learn from our mistakes and keep going. Brentford are a dangerous team."

Brentford have beaten Arsenal, West Ham United and Everton this season and were only narrowly defeated by Chelsea and Manchester City.

And Fabinho added: "Brentford are playing really well, and I'm sure it will be a hard game.

"Right now, in the league the three points remains a lot for us, so it doesn't matter who we play. We just have to focus on our game and try to win.

"As a player we always like when we have a lot of games to play. It's a good opportunity for players to show their quality and we have to be ready as it's a busy month."

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, Klopp has been forced to reshape his strikeforce.

And Fabinho is grateful for the return to action of fellow Brazilian Firmino, who netted his first goal in almost three months in last weekend's 4-1 FA Cup third round win over Shrewsbury Town.

"It was good to see Bobby playing again and scoring again," he said, speaking to LFC TV. "It was a really nice goal, a real Bobby goal with the backheel.

"It's important for him after some injuries and having got COVID as well to get some minutes in the bag and play again.

"He'll have the opportunity to play two or three games in a row, which will be really good for him.

"It's really good that he's back and in good shape."

Fabinho has also welcomed the imminent comeback of 18-year-old Harvey Elliott, who has been absent since September having suffered a serious ankle injury.

“We are really happy for him because we always see him in the training ground and in the dressing room, and he always has a smile on his face,” said Fabinho.

“So it is not an easy moment for him after his injury but he is always working hard and doing everything to be back in the best shape possible. So it will be really good to have him back. He is someone who can do good things for the team as well.

“Hopefully he will be back soon and helping us.”
