'We have to be better' - Labour candidate Darren Jones says he has 'no idea' if he'll hold Bristol North West

The Labour Party candidate for Bristol North West has said his party has to "be better", as it appears the Tories are set for a landslide victory.

The exit poll predicts Boris Johnson's Conservative Party will have an 86-seat majority, with Labour set to suffer its worst defeat since the 1930s.

One tight seat in the election is Bristol North West, which the exit poll deemed "too close" to forecast.

Labour Party candidate Darren Jones says he has "no idea" whether he will hold his seat tonight.

The exit poll said there is a 55 per cent chance of a Labour hold compared to a 45 per cent chance of Conservative candidate Mark Weston gaining the seat.

The results are due to come in some time between 3am and 4am - you can follow live updates here.

In a statement on Twitter, he said: "I'm grateful to live in a democracy and I’m super proud of my team, my volunteers, my constituents and my city.

"I’ve had so many kind supporters and so many hard working volunteers."

He went on to say he is "disappointed" his party "failed to win the trust of so many voters" but said he was not going to start "the blame game", adding: "The bottom line is that a political party exists to win elections, in order to change the country. We have to be honest about why we lost and be better."
