California Governor Gavin Newsom has accused the US Department of Justice of investigating him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, claiming the probe is politically motivated.

Newsom alleged the investigation is linked to his criticism of President Donald Trump and speculation about a potential 2028 White House bid.

In a video message posted on social media, Newsom said, "Today, my wife & I joined Donald Trump’s hit list. He has directed his Department of Justice to investigate us. They have not found a crime - they are simply trying to find one."
