'We have little control' - Nottingham Forest target says goodbye to current club

Nottingham Forest -linked striker Lyle Taylor has bid goodbye to current club Charlton Athletic.

Taylor has made the headlines in recent weeks after he declared he would not play when the Championship resumes on June 20.

The Addicks' top scorer is out of contract this summer and at the age of 30, believes this summer may be his last chance to get a move to a bigger club with a bigger contract.

With that in mind, he has decided he won't play the rest of the season - part of which will extend beyond his contract - to avoid risk of an injury that could scupper his chances of a move.

Taylor has been heavily linked with Forest since January with the Reds being tipped to make a move when the striker becomes a free agent this summer.

In the meantime, Taylor has now said goodbye to his current club in an emotional tweet.

He wrote: "This is not how this chapter was supposed to finish, but sometimes we have little control over it. I’ve had so many messages of support from fans, teammates and other players and coaches. For those, I thank each and every one of you."

Taylor has been with Charlton since 2018 when he joined from AFC Wimbledon, scoring 32 times in 63 league games in all.

He helped the London club win promotion to the Championship last season and his 11 league goals this year have given them a fighting chance of beating the drop.

Though, if Lee Bowyer's men - currently two points from safety - are to climb out of the bottom three in their last nine games, they will have to do it without their star stiker.
