'We have had a blast' - country pub with accommodation near Bristol Airport sold

A pub just a few miles away from Bristol Airport has been sold - and its new owners plan to bring traditional Indian food to its kitchens.

The Darlington Arms, in Redhill near Wrington, has been bought by businessmen Thayanesan Karnan and Sivaji Rajmohan.

It will be the first time the duo will take on the task of running a pub, having previously focused on their portfolio of petrol stations.

The duo now want to focus on making the North Somerset pub the go-to place to stay for people travelling to and from Bristol Airport to stay.

The period property used to be an old coaching inn, known as The Bell, but it faced being closed permanently in 2015.

However Neil and Helen Maxwell then bought it at auction before restoring it and reopening it as The Darlington Arms in January 2016.

Now they've decided to sell the pub and move on. They said: “We wish the new owners, Raj and Karnan all the best for the future and thank you to all of our staff and customers for the last four years.

"We have had a blast.”

Christie & Co, which handled the sale, said Raj and Karnan will keep the pub in its current trading format plan but want to place a greater focus on using its seven boutique rooms as accommodation for Bristol Airport travellers.

The pair also intend to introduce a few traditional Indian meals to the menu in order to attract more local trade.
