Was this the night that Nottingham Forest announced themselves to the league as genuine contenders for automatic promotion?

Joe Lolley’s 14th minute strike was enough to seal a deserved 1-0 win at rivals Brentford and move them third in the Championship, just two points behind West Brom after their defeat at Cardiff.

Fans were jubilant, both in the sold-out away end at Griffin Park and on social media, as they heralded Sabrin Lamouchi’s latest masterclass on the road.

The Reds may have had little in the way of possession at a packed and vibrant Griffin Park in its final season, but they were far from undeserved winners after frustrating the hosts for long periods.

Brentford, who hadn't lost at home since November and on a winning run of their own managed just three shots on target and in truth, failed to test Brice Samba in goal, himself booked early on after referee Tim Robinson brandished a yellow card for time wasting.

It could have been even better in the second half, had referee Robinson given what looked a certain penalty for a clumsy foul on Lewis Grabban.

Forest and their followers will take their momentum to Birmingham on Saturday afternoon, hoping to continue their impressive run of form.
