'We got Sokratis and Mustafi instead' - Arsenal fans rue Caglar Soyuncu transfer decision

Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Caglar Soyuncu in 2018.

The Gunners had already signed Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund, but an overhaul of their defence was required and Freiburg centre-back Soyuncu was seen as a perfect addition to the new team being put together by Unai Emery.

Soyuncu had even prepared himself for a move to the Emirates Stadium when he said: "I hope I go to Arsenal.

"I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team."

However, Arsenal's interest dried up and Soyuncu eventually did make his dream move to the Premier League, with Leicester City shelling out £19million for the Turkish international's services.

And after being eased into Premier League football and its faced-paced nature, making eight appearances for the Foxes during the 2018/19 season, the 23-year-old has come into his own, playing every minute of action in the top flight this season.

And he particularly impressed as Leicester came from behind to beat Arsenal's fierce rivals Tottenham at the King Power Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

James Benge's verdict on Arsenal team news

Soyuncu shone at the back and with Arsenal suffering defensively so far this season, allowing 96 shots on their goal in their five games, the Gunners fans are left rueing the decision not to sign the Turkish man last summer.

After his display against Spurs, there was plenty of chat on social networking site Twitter about missing out on the 23-year-old.

There were even some fans suggesting Arsenal go back in for him again in the coming transfer windows.

If they were to do that, however, he would surely cost even more.
