We got fooled by these April Fool's day headlines so you didn't have to

It's April Fools day.

That means navigating the internet today is a bit of a nightmare as news organisations and companies try and outdo each other with their best April Fool's Day jokes.

So you don't get tricked into believing one of these jokes are real, we've scoured the web to find some of the best on offer in 2018.

And just in case you're unclear ... everything below here is a joke, and absolutely not true.

Mount Thurstmore

The Townsville City Council revealed on Facebook a plan to carve the face of NRL superstar Johnathan Thurston into Castle Hill.

Unsurprisingly, plenty of commenters think the plan to immortalise North Queensland's favourite son isn't a terribly bad one.

Burger King found a way to make its food even more unhealthy

Incredible that the American fast-food giant keeps the chocolate from melting over that flame grill.

A new job for Lisa Wilkinson

Australian television blog TV Tonight gave us the best idea that's never going to happen by reporting that Channel Ten's was cooking up a Big Brother revival with Lisa Wilkinson as host to replace I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

TBH Lisa's probably the only host who could hold a candle to Gretel Killeen's powerhouse performance during the show's original run.

We can almost hear Lisa saying "It's time to go".

The world's first smartshoephone

This one from American telco T-Mobile has all the elements of a good April Fools joke.

Slick production values, enough nostalgia to hook you in and a whole lot of ridiculous ideas to make you giggle.

A ground breaking study ... on drop bears

We get the feeling this one will be fooling some unsuspecting visitors to Australia long after April 1.

But it's a stellar effort from the Australian Geographic.

Help find Wally ... on Google Maps

Google has long dabbled in the art of the April Fool's joke and this year is no exception, with a playable version of Where's Wally inside its maps app.

Wally even makes a stopover on Queensland's Gold Coast.

To play, just open up the Google Maps app on your phone or head here on desktop and get searching.

An easier way to choose a car

Because what could go wrong if we all turned our personal genetic data over to mega-corporation?

Australia's police got in on the gags too

The Queensland Police announced an urgent investigation into reports of some troubling crimes.

And Tasmania Police showed off their new highly-trained Hoon Dog Elvis
