It’s time to go back to school with James and Ruby, because Amazon’s mega hit, Maxton Hall – The World Between Us, is finally coming back for Season 2. After quite the wait, the German-language romance will continue the story of Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten’s characters, and in the lead-up to the show’s premiere, let’s talk about what we know so far.
Maxton Hall’s Season 2 Release Date

The wait for Maxton Hall Season 2 is basically over! The beloved romance will return on the 2025 TV schedule on November 7, 2025. However, it will not drop all at once. Similar to other big Prime Video hits, the upcoming book-to-screen adaptation of Mona Kasten’s novels will premiere its first three episodes on November 7. Then, it will drop weekly, releasing episodes every Friday until the finale premieres on November 28.
For a bit of context about just how long we’ve been waiting for this, Season 1 premiered in May of 2024. Maxton Hall was then quickly renewed for Season 2, and now, about a year and a half later, we’re getting the sophomore season.
It’s also worth noting that Maxton Hall has already been renewed for Season 3 as well, so here’s hoping we’ll get that on our screens sooner rather than later!
What Will Season 2 Of Maxton Hall Be About?

To recap, Season 1 of Maxton Hall technically ends with Ruby and James happy together. However, in the final moments, it’s revealed that James’ mother has unexpectedly died. After learning that, he lashed out at his father and ran to Ruby’s. However, instead of going in, he just stared into the window.
Going into Season 2, it’s been revealed by head writer Ceylan Yildirim that James will be in “a dark abyss,” and according to Herbig-Matten, Ruby will “suffer her first heartbreak.” The trailer alludes to all of that, too. Take a look:
Amazon’s synopsis indicates dark roads ahead for James and Ruby, as well. It explains that after their passionate night at Oxford, the death of James’ mother changes their relationship entirely, bringing them both “to a harsh reality.” In the wake of that, she’ll try to forget this man she has very strong feelings for; however, “she can’t,” and that’s especially because “he’s doing everything he can to win her back.”
Along with all that information, Season 2 will take inspiration from Mona Kasten’s second Maxton Hall book, Save You, after Season 1 was based on her first novel, Save Me.
What We Know About The Maxton Hall Season 2 Cast

Obviously, when Maxton Hall returns to our screens, Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten will be back as the show’s leads, James and Ruby, respectively.
Along with them, Sonja Weißer will return as James’ sister, Lydia, and Fedja van Huêt will be back as his father, Mortimer. Ruby’s family will also return, as Runa Greiner will reprise her role as her sister, Ember. Prime Video also confirmed that Justus Riesner will be back to play Alistair, Andrea Guo will be Lin again, Frederic Balonier will return as Kieran, and Eli Riccardi will be in the show as Elaine.
Maxton Hall Has Wrapped Production, And Season 3 Is Already In The Works

Obviously, since Season 2 of Maxton Hall is coming out soon, production has wrapped. It ended a while ago, too. According to Deadline, the upcoming installment finished shooting in September of 2024. That was well over a year ago. Season 1 also had a wait like that, as it was filmed two years before it actually came out.
Harriet Herbig-Matten opened up to Us Weekly about that long wait, and she explained that the anticipation made her nervous. She said:
It was a long wait [for the show to premiere]. Two years was a long time and it wasn’t planned. It made us nervous. It was like, ‘Come on, finally!’ But you can’t change it and can’t control it.
However, now it’s coming out, and it’s finished. On top of that, Season 3 is already in the works (and has been for a while). On June 9, Maxton Hall’s two stars posted a video on Instagram revealing their scripts and talking about how excited they are to get back to work:
So, as we get ready to watch the sophomore season, this program’s junior season is well on its way. And that’s got me hoping that we’ll see it sometime in the next year or two.
How To Watch Maxton Hall

This is an easy one. Just like last season, you will be able to stream Season 2 of Maxton Hall with an Amazon Prime subscription. Make sure to keep it active too, because as I stated earlier, the romance will drop weekly episodes following its three-episode premiere.
Damian Hardung Opened Up About Just How Challenging Season 2 Was To Film

As we’ve discussed, Maxton Hall Season 2 will tackle heavier issues and get a lot darker. To that point, Damian Hardung revealed what’s in store for James and just how challenging it’s been to film these episodes on the podcast Short Take :
I am definitely excited to see the second season of Maxon Hall because I just did the ADR for it. And the second season is like really, really grim and dark and a lot of grief and trauma. I had like a really tough time shooting that.
It’s not surprising to know that Season 2 will be a little darker than Season 1, considering how the finale ended. James and his twin sister Lydia were told that their mother had died, leading James to get angry at his father and tackle him. While he was going to see Ruby, he decided against it after seeing her happy with her family. That means it’s quite possible that James could be a little closed off in the second season. And I'm dying to know how that will impact his relationship.
On that note, Hardung confirmed that this upcoming installment will be darker, and he said he's hoping his character can find his "lightheartedness" again, explaining:
And so that lightheartedness, which went away a bit shooting James in the second season because it's just so bleak. So I really tried to get back to that because that's, I think, something that's very close to me.
Things are not going to be as lighthearted as they were in the first season. Now that Maxton Hall Season 2 is coming, it sounds like we are about to dive into the nitty-gritty and dark details.
So, make sure to tune into Maxton Hall Season 2 when it premieres on Prime Video on November 7.
