'We fight against the referees' Gjanni Alioski's frustration over late penalty decision at Preston

Gjanni Alioski has criticised the match officials after Leeds United's 1-1 draw with Preston.

The North Macedonia international cut a frustrated figure after Leeds came away from Deepdale with just a point despite creating a number of good chances to take the lead.

Alioski was particularly critical of the decision not to award Leeds a penalty in the dying moments of the game, after Tyler Roberts went down in the box following a challenge from Preston's Ben Pearson.

Referee Kevin Friend waved away appeals from the United players, with a loud cry from Leeds' 5,000-strong travelling support as subsequent replays appeared to show the Lilywhites midfielder winning the ball.

"I've said this before," said the left-back, speaking after the match. "We fight against the team that we play and against the referees.

"It's unbelievable that the referees don't help us sometimes, because it's a clear penalty.

"It's unbelievable how they don't see it. There's four referees on the pitch and nobody sees it.

"We can't say it's the referees, but what we need is that they know that we play high-intensity, and sometimes the other teams need to do fouls and they need to help us."
