The Record view says what’s the point of Boris Johnson being in Scotland today?
If it’s to campaign against Scottish independence, has nobody told him that his mere presence north of the Border – not to mention his Brexiteer chums – is far more likely to actually increase support for the Yes movement?
Maybe it’s to offer help with the pandemic.
The reality is that his mistakes and procrastination have resulted in much of the current crisis.
Indeed, it was public health professor Linda Bauld who yesterday said that political decisions “directly” contributed to the UK’s second wave, which saw the death toll pass 100,000 on Tuesday.
“System failure” she called it.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon isn’t clear of blame either.
Her decision to allow thousands of students to go back to Scottish universities in September was one of the catalysts for our second wave.
As she promised tougher action yesterday, we can only hope she has learned from her mistakes.
But as for the Prime Minister, he just buries his head in the sand and hopes someone else will fix the mess.
So why are you here Mr Johnson? Tory prime ministerial visits to a country which didn’t vote for them never go down well.
Your bleeding, hollow and false rhetoric will never sit well with a majority of Scots who only want to see your departure – both from Scotland and Downing Street.
That’s the only bit of essential travel we want you on.
