'We don't support that': Paralympians on Russia protest

Germany's Paralympians have staged their own protest against Russia's inclusion at the Milan-Cortina Games, while Ukraine has claimed their athletes have been mistreated by the International Paralympic ‌Committee (IPC).

German duo, silver ‌medallist Linn Kazmaier and her guide Florian Baumann, are under investigation by the IPC for turning their backs on the Russian national anthem and keeping their winter hats on during a cross-country medal ceremony.

Russia's Anastasiia Bagiian and her guide Sergei Siniakin had won the ‌women's sprint classic vision-impaired event on Tuesday.

Bagiian is one of six Russian and four Belarusian athletes who were invited last month by the IPC to compete at the Paralympics under their respective national flags, a decision condemned by other countries.

Russia have so far won six medals at the Milan-Cortina Games, including four golds.

"We decided to keep our hats on and not turn towards the flags, because we don't support that," Kazmaier told ‌German public broadcasting network ARD.

Baumann added: "I simply do not think it is right that the IPC has decided Russia can compete here under its own flag, with its own anthem and with a full band, while the Ukrainians are also here."

The IPC said on Wednesday they were "aware of the situation, gathering evidence and analysing it".

Germany's protests come as the Ukrainian Paralympic Committee claimed its athletes and coaches have been "subjected to systematic pressure" from the IPC and Milan-Cortina organisers.

The Ukrainian Paralympic Committee said they were forced by a member of the organising committee to remove the country's flag from the building where the team is residing.

Among other incidents relayed in the statement, a representative of the IPC "harshly" tried to take away earrings with the flag of Ukraine - on which was written "Stop War" - from para-biathlete sprint standing Oleksandra Kononova.

The Ukrainian body accused the IPC of having "a very special partnership" with the national Paralympic committees of Russia and Belarus.

The Organising Committees for the Olympic Games (OCOG), in a statement, said "we are reviewing the matters referenced, several of which we are hearing about for the first time".

Ukraine have won 10 medals in Italy so far, including three golds.
