"We don't get too down": Watford goalkeeper Rob Elliot looks ahead to meeting with old team-mates

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot says that Watford's League Cup defeat to Stoke City hasn't resulted in a loss of confidence ahead of the weekend's clash with his old club.

Elliot made his debut for the Hornets in the 3-1 defeat and played alongside his old Toon team-mates Dan Gosling and Moussa Sissoko.

Watford made 11 changes to the team that had beat Norwich 3-1 away from at the weekend in the Premier League.

But they will return to full strength on Saturday afternoon at Vicarage Road.

Looking towards the meeting with Newcastle, Elliot said: "Now on Saturday against Newcastle, if the lads who played today (vs Stoke) need to come on everyone’s sharp and ready to go.

"We’ve got a lot of positives to take, we just need to make sure we don’t get down about the result and concentrate on the performance."

Reflecting on his debut for Watford, Elliot, who spent nine years at St James' Park, said to the Hornets website: "I’m really proud [to make my debut].

"I’ve been here a while and not really had a chance because the lads have done so well.

"I haven’t played in a long time and I’ve really missed it.

"I haven’t just come here to be number three, I try to push the lads every day in training. I was hoping for a little cup run but that wasn’t to be.

"The manager’s shown faith in putting me on which he didn’t need to do.

"I’m really pleased, really proud and I want to make sure I can keep pushing on a personal note to make more appearances."
