'We dominated' - Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate left disappointed with Bristol City draw and defends offside goal

Jonathan Woodgate felt his Middlesbrough side were worth a win in their entertaining 2-2 draw with Bristol City.

The Robins led at the break thanks to Kasey Palmer's header late on in the first half, but Woodgate's side hit back with a quickfire double after half-time to go 2-1 ahead.

Yet Tommy Rowe's goal late on secured a point for City, and left Woodgate disappointed.

He told Sky Sports: "Without a doubt, I thought we dominated the game throughout.

"In the first half they were really dangerous on the counter-attack and we addressed that in the second half with a few little tweaks.

"We dominated the game and dominated the ball, creating the chances.

"Disappointed with their goals, the defenders in there were marking the space, but space doesn't score.

"Especially when you look at young defenders learning their trade in the game - not just in our team, but you see them marking areas, go and pick up a man.

"If you mark the men, the men don't score."

Woodgate was unhappy with the point, claiming he came to Ashton Gate looking for all three, despite knowing that the Robins are in good form.

He said: "This team have been unbeaten in five games and it's now six.

"They're a good team, Lee Johnson has got them playing well, he's been with the team for a while, but we came to win the game.

"I didn't come here to sit behind the ball and get a draw, I came to win the game."

Woodgate played down controversy over Britt Assombalonga's goal, which came when the Boro striker was in an offside position but play was waved on after the ball came off the head of City defender Taylor Moore.

He said: "What did (referee) Dermot Gallagher say? There's the rule, I'm happy about it."
