'We did everything but score' - Joey Barton's verdict on Fleetwood's defeat at Nottingham Forest

Fleetwood boss Joey Barton felt his team 'did everything but score' against Nottingham Forest as they exited the Carabao Cup.

Tiago Silva's second half strike saw the Reds pick up their first win under Sabri Lamouchi.

However, Barton felt the League One side were unlucky with Ross Wallace testing debutant Brice Samba and Conor McAleney missing a glorious chance after going behind at the City Ground.

"We came here with a plan to take the crowd away from them and settle the lads into the unfamiliar surroundings of a Championship ground," he said.

"We did that superbly and limited them to set plays and corners. We were happy with Worrall and Bostock having the ball deep.

"They weren't going to hurt us. With Mir at the top we were more than comfortable where we wanted them to play.

"We wanted a skirmish on our terms. The plan was to change on the 60 minute mark and take the game to them.

"They scored about then so we made the change (bringing McAleney on) and after that there was only one side going to score.

"After that we spurned some really good chances. We're more than pleased with the performance. We have to take confidence from that. We did everything but score."

Forest's reward for victory was a second round tie at home to arch rivals Derby County.
