Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood just dropped some news that’s music to every classic rock fan’s ears — he’s back in the studio with none other than Rod Stewart.
In a recent chat on BBC Radio 4’s “Desert Island Discs”, the 78-year-old guitarist shared that he and his old Faces bandmate have been quietly working on fresh tracks together. “We’ve got these songs that we’ve been working on from back in the day,” Ronnie said. “But it’s hard to make our times tally”, reported the daily mail.
He went on to tease that there’s plenty of unfinished magic left to polish. “When we do get a chance of getting in the studio again, we’ll finish off these songs. We’ve got a good body of songs going.”

That possibility got a major boost this summer when the pair reunited on stage at the Glastonbury Festival in June. The chemistry between them, Ronnie said, felt effortless. “Absolutely nothing had changed,” he admitted. “It came over really well and he knows what he’s doing.”
For those who’ve followed their story, this reunion is more than a nostalgic moment — it’s a return to where it all started. Back in 1969, The Faces formed from the remnants of Small Faces, with Stewart on vocals, Wood on guitar, and other rock icons like Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones rounding out the lineup.
The band quickly made their mark with timeless hits like Stay With Me and Ooh La La, songs that still get airplay today and define that swaggering, whiskey-soaked rock ‘n’ roll sound.
But by 1975, the good times came to a halt when Ronnie left to join the Rolling Stones, officially marking the end of The Faces’ run. Stewart went on to dominate the charts with a wildly successful solo career, while Wood cemented his legacy as one of rock’s great guitarists alongside Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Now, nearly five decades later, hearing that these two might have a new batch of songs together feels like rock history repeating itself — in the best way possible.
Neither Stewart nor Wood has said when fans might actually hear the new material, but just knowing it exists is enough to stir excitement among both Stones and Faces loyalists. Given their shared history and undeniable chemistry, it’s not hard to imagine that whatever comes next will sound like pure classic rock gold.
Whether or not it leads to a full-blown reunion tour remains to be seen. But for now, it’s clear that Ronnie and Rod haven’t lost that spark that made them legends in the first place.
