'We can never say' - Kyle Walker makes strong Liverpool claim as Man City failing clear

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker believes Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool should be considered one of the greatest teams of the Premier League era.

But the England international admits City can only regarded in the same category once they claim a first European Cup.

The Reds are the only side to consistently threaten City's dominance during Pep Guardiola's tenure, which has seen the moneybags Etihad outfit win the Premier League in five of the last six years.

Liverpool broke up that run by claiming the title in 2020 and twice finished a point behind City in 2018/19 and 2021/22, while also being crowned champions of Europe and the world in 2019.

City will aim to become only the second team after Manchester United 24 years ago to win the treble of league, FA Cup and European Cup when they take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday evening.

And, in a rare acknowledgement from City, Walker believes Klopp's Liverpool, the United team of 1999 and Arsenal's title-winning side of 2004 have strong claims to be regarded England's greatest of the last 30 years.

“Of course, I think that United team, along with the Invincibles (of Arsenal), is probably up there with the best Premier League teams of all time," said Walker.

"What us and Liverpool, to a certain extent, have done where we have been battling for the last number of years, I think we should be in consideration - both teams as we both have fantastic players – but they (Liverpool) have got the big Champions League trophy that we can never say we have got.

"For us to be in contention of talking around that we need to go and pick up this. By no stretch of the imagination do we just turn up on Saturday and we win it. It's not that. Inter Milan need to be considered as a great team."
