IT HAS been so far, so good for the Hunter, which has so far recorded no new cases of COVID-19.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejikilian has confirmed there were 22 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday.

The premier said it was pleasing to see a "steady rate of cases" in the latest numbers, and thanked the more than 68,000 people who were tested for COVID-19 in the state yesterday.

"Keep doing the right thing," Ms Berejiklian said.

"If we keep doing the right thing, everything we want can be achieved.

"I'd just ask NSW citizens to keep following the health advice - that is our assured way of seeing this lockdown end when we would like it to end.

"We can get out of this. It is early days. It depends on the next few days. The truth is in the numbers. We are expecting the numbers to bounce around.

"We are still expecting a bounce up."

NSW chief health officer, Dr Kerry Chant, said all of the 22 new cases were linked to previously confirmed cases, and 11 were already in isolation while infectious.

"Please go and get your second dose of AstraZeneca if you have had a first dose," Dr Chant said.

There have been 171 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case of the Bondi cluster, a driver who transported international flight crew, was reported. Of these, 160 are now linked to the Bondi cluster.

Six new overseas-acquired cases were recorded in the same period, bringing the total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 5,637.
