The Blues have made the decision to add the vastly experienced central-defender to their ranks after after conceding more goals than any other club that finished inside the top-10 in the Premier League last term.
Silva has joined the Blues on a free-transfer after being released by former club Paris Saint-Germain following their Uefa Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last weekend.
The defender becomes the Blues' third signing just this week, following in the footsteps of Ben Chilwell, who was signed for £50million from Leicester City, and Malang Sarr, who joined the club on a free-transfer on Thursday.
The defender has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge with the option of a further 12 months.
