'We call it murder': Justice for Elijah protest

The group left white hand prints on the windows of the WA Parliament building.

Hundreds of protesters have marched on State Parliament calling for justice for Kalgoorlie teenager Elijah Doughty.

The 14-year-old boy was fatally run over in Kalgoorlie in August last year, and the man responsible was last month convicted of dangerous driving causing death.

He was sentenced to three years' jail, a decision Aboriginal elders labelled at the time as an injustice.

Tuesday's protest began in Forrest Place at midday, with many in the crowd holding signs reading "Justice".

The group ignored police instructions to march along St Georges Terrace towards Parliament.

Instead they sat down in the middle of an intersection, bringing traffic to a standstill.

They then walked up Hay Street chanting, "you call it justice, we call it murder".

Once they reached Parliament House, members of the group left white handprints on the building's windows — no attempt was made to stop them doing so.

Former AFL player Scott Chisolm was one of several people to address the crowd.

He said despite the judicial process being over, the group would continue to make its voice heard.

"When you're digging holes and putting our children in there, of course we're going to stand up for our people," he said.

"This is not only happening in Perth, it's happening all over the country.

"We are a humble, peaceful people. When others recognise that we'll close that gap quicker.

"Our voice can't go quiet."
