We asked Wales' education minister whether schools would provide live online classes

Schools are re-opening in Wales on June 29, but not for all pupils at once.

Not all pupils will be in at the same time on the same day. Plans are being put in place for around one in three children to attend at any one time to minimise the risk of Covid-19 infection.

A "blend" of face to face and remote learning will continue even at the start of the new academic year in September.

Can parents hope for online classes for their children to help them learn remotely from home on days they cannot go in under the new way schools will work?

Some independent schools are running live online classes.

When WalesOnline asked Wales' education minister Kirsty Williams whether that will be done in Wales too, she said it already is in some places.

She told us: "Some of our schools are already providing online lessons and catch up sessions and the Welsh Government has prioritised guidance to professionals on how they can do that safely.

"What we have seen is incredible innovation at great speed in the Welsh education system.

"Schools had two days' notice before closure for statutory purposes and we are now seeing new pedagogical approaches develop all the time.

"But what we do know from the evidence is that online learning works better when it is supported by face to teaching and that's why we are beginning this blended approach now with our check in sessions as we prepare for going back to learning in the new academic year.

"Some schools are providing online, live classes, currently, at the moment."
