'We are only playing for £170m!' Brentford's Thomas Frank again slams no VAR in play-offs as Swansea City's rivals fuming

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has once again slammed the lack of Video Assistant Referees in the Championship play-offs after his side's loss to Bournemouth.

The Bees were beaten 1-0 by Jonathan Woodgate's outfit in Monday's first leg semi-final contest between the sides at The Vitality Stadium.

However, Frank was left furious after referee Tim Robinson failed to award his side a penalty following an early challenge from Adam Smith on Tarique Fosu-Henry.

And the Danish boss says VAR should be used in the play-offs given the rich rewards on offer for the side that goes on to gain promotion into the Premier League.

“Why is there not one of you who is asking me about VAR on the penalty? Have you seen it back? 100 per cent penalty,” Frank said.

“Another good example of why there should be VAR in these games.

“The small margins that you need to have with you, you need to have those going your way in these semi-finals.

“This is not a ‘maybe handball’. No, no, no. Our player touched the ball, clear contact in the penalty box, that’s a penalty.

“It’s these situations that we need to get bang on. I think we’re only playing for what, about £170million?”

It comes less than a year after Frank bemoaned the decision for Rico Henry to be sent off during Swansea's play-off semi-final tussle with Brentford.

The Bees host Bournemouth at the Brentford Community Stadium at 12:30pm in the second leg on Saturday.

Swansea's second leg clash with Barnsley gets under way at 6:30pm on the same day.
