'We are not facing a second wave,' Spanish FM says as Covid-19 infections rise

TALKING EUROPE © FRANCE 24

More than 28,000 people have died of Covid-19 in Spain and as the number of infections rises, there's concern that the coronavirus could be taking hold once again. But Spain's foreign minister tells FRANCE 24 her government is "not worried" about the outbreaks, and that track-and-trace systems are in place. "We are not facing a second wave, what we are facing is outbreaks here and there," she says.

Arancha Gonzalez Laya also discusses the historic €750 billion EU coronavirus recovery plan, of which Spain will be one of the biggest beneficiaries.

And just days after EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier warned that the UK might not strike a new deal with the EU before the end of its transition period on December 31, the Spanish foreign minister says "the clock is ticking" and it's now up to the UK to be clearer about what it wants from its new relationship with the European Union.
