We are “Larry Little” days away from Miami Dolphins football

The 2019 Miami Dolphins kickoff has moved to 66 days away — meaning today is the day we honor one of Miami’s all-time greats. Hall of Fame guard Larry Little wore “#66” with the Dolphins for his 12-year career in South Florida. Little first entered the NFL in 1967 as an undrafted free agent, signing with the San Diego Chargers. But by 1969, Little had been traded to the Dolphins and was a key cog in the Dolphins’ transition into a dynasty in the early ’70s.

Little’s play was phenomenal, to put it mildly. He was named to five 1st-team All-Pro teams from 1971 to 1975, a stretch that included both of Miami’s Super Bowl titles in franchise history.

Little retired in 1980, his playing career spanning over three decades before hanging up the cleats. Little followed his playing career by transitioning to a coach — he coached Bethune-Cookham and North Carolina Central between 1983 and 1998 and compiling a 78-80-1 record over that timespan.

These days, Little is remembered as one of the greatest offensive linemen for the Dolphins — a team that has had their fair share of greats. His name hangs at Hard Rock Stadium as a part of the Dolphins’ Honor Roll and his bust is showcased in Canton, Ohio. He was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
