We are “Joe Rose” days away from Miami Dolphins football

Every South Floridian knows Joe Rose. Perhaps not from his six year playing career with the Miami Dolphins in the early 1980s, but no doubt about it — if you’re from the region, you know Joe Rose well enough. Rose currently serves as the Dolphins’ radio color commentator and co-hosts “The Joe Rose Show” on 560WQAM.

Rose, who wore #80 for his time in Miami, is our daily honoree — we’ve reached 80 days from the kickoff to the 2019 Dolphins season. Younger generations of Dolphins fans may only associate Rose with his on-air personality, but in fact Joe holds a very special piece of Miami Dolphins history.

Rose, a 3rd-year tight end in 1983, caught the first ever touchdown pass of a rookie quarterback named Dan Marino — a 6-yard score in the 4th quarter of garbage time vs. the Raiders. The Dolphins, who trailed 27-0 at the time of Marino’s first score, would go 10-3 from that point on in the 1983 season and finish the year at 12-4. For Rose himself, he finished that season fourth on the team in both receiving yards (345), receptions (29) and receiving touchdowns (3).

Between Rose’s on-air personality and on-field contributions, many generations of Dolphins fans have enjoyed the talents of #80. Cheers, Joe!
