We are “Jerome Baker” days away from Miami Dolphins football

The start of the 2019 season is now 55 days away — less than eight weeks. And of all the current Dolphins who have been showcased on this countdown to football, perhaps none of them are as critical to the team’s success in 2019 as #55, Jerome Baker.

Baker is entering his second second with the Dolphins after being drafted in the 3rd-round of the 2018 NFL Draft and by all accounts, Baker was very good as a rookie. He certainly outplayed his draft status as the 73rd overall selection of the Draft with 79 total tackles, 3 sacks, 4 tackles for loss and an interception.

But Baker is no longer looking to outpace his expectations as a draft pick — he’s looking to raise the bar from his successful rookie campaign. There are expectations for Baker across the board: from himself, from the fans and most importantly from new head coach Brian Flores. The impression from the Dolphins coaching staff is that Baker is reportedly going to be put in a lot of places — including as a pass rusher. The hope? His athleticism and quick study ability can fast-track him into an even more versatile role — one that would result in Baker being one of the critical factors of Miami’s defense.
