A biker has hit back after pictures showing a large number of bikes at a beauty spot were circulated.
Martin Durand said he thinks bikers are “soft targets” for people criticising the situation in Matlock Bath.
At the weekend James Smith said there were “disgusting scenes” in the area on Sunday with crowds of people and “around 200 bikes”.
But Mr Durand, from Ripley, who has been a biker for his whole adult life, denied that there were 200 bikes in the town over the weekend, Derbyshire Live reports.
The 52-year-old said he was in Matlock Bath on Sunday and that there “couldn’t have been more than 70 bikes” parked up on the main street.
He said: “There were police keeping an eye on everything on Sunday. My mate and I parked up and went for a brew and some fish and chips while keeping our distance from each other.
“It would be impossible to get 200 bikes down there because areas were coned off by police.
“This is just another dig at bikers. We are always soft targets when 90% of us are following the rules.”
Mr Durand said he was “disgusted” by the scenes in Matlock in March before the lockdown was announced.
He said: “I haven’t ridden since Christmas and I have had the chance to go out during lockdown and I haven’t gone.
“You will always get one idiot doing something stupid but the majority are following the rules.”
