'We are all buzzing for him': Emotional scenes as Kieran Trippier's brothers react to England's Euro win

The chants of ‘Kieran Trippier’ rang out at The Garsdale - a country pub owned by the England player’s brother.

Perhaps even louder than when England scored those two goals in their historic win over Denmark, the singing made it clear just how proud this corner of Bury feels about seeing one of their own in the squad.

So many people in this crowd feel like they have helped raise a key member of the most successful England side in a generation.

Win or lose, they are on Trippier’s team.

Among them were Kieran’s two brothers, pub-owner Kelvin and his eldest brother Chris.

Celebrating his birthday, Chris said there was no better gift than to see his little brother representing his country.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I am really, really proud.

"Whether he is playing or whether he is on the bench, I am absolutely buzzing for him and buzzing for the whole team to be honest.

"It's a full team effort."

Ahead of the match, Kelvin added: "I think it will be a tough game, but the lads can turn it on.

"It's what every child wants to do - they want to play for their country and they want to play in a big tournament.

"Luckily enough, he has managed to do that.

"We are all buzzing for him."

Elsewhere Jane Billy, a former manager of local children’s football team Bury Rangers, spoke of her pride in playing a small role in Kieran’s success.

Having known Kieran since he was 12, she helped to encourage him to go for his spot on the England squad, saying: “There are so many good players in Ramsbottom and Bury, but Kieran was one of those that outshone everybody else.

“I said to him, ‘you need to play for England!’

“He said, ‘do you know how hard that is?’ But I told him he was capable of it. I said ‘you can do this’.

“We are a community, the Trippier family are all here. We’re all here to support that family and Kieran for this England game. We’re going to bring it home.”

The atmosphere was electric as England pegged Denmark back and then took a 2-1 lead in extra time. But when Kieran got onto the pitch, the energy climbed to new levels.

“How could you even put that into words?” said brother Kelvin as the final whistle blew.

“Tense! Up, down, penalty miss, rebound. Oh my god, we’re in the final. 55 years. 55 years it’s took!”

In emotional post-match scenes, Chris said: “Amazing. We’re going to the final. It’s so good to experience this in my lifetime.

“Our kid got on, got the last ten, 15 minutes!

“What would I say to him? There’s not enough words.

“Not just him, the full team as well.

“I've got a migraine now - I'm going home to bed! It’s going to be a dream.”
