WBC British belt is the target as Shotts boxer Scott Allan eyes silver title success

Scott Allan intends to use a WBC International Silver Super Flyweight title as a springboard to the BBBC British title.

The Shotts fighter, who has dropped down from bantamweight, takes on England’s Marcel Braithwaite at the Bentley in Liverpool on Saturday for the vacant title, and hopes it can open doors for him in the future.

Allan, 29, says he’s never felt fitter or more ready for the challenge, and aims to live up to his ‘title taker’ moniker.

He said: “This is a massive opportunity for me, absolutely huge.

“You look at the guys I’ve fought and I’ve never shied away from opponent whatsoever.

“I’m looking forward to winning a WBC title and then pushing on to bigger and better things.

“I’m really fit at the moment, I’ve been training really hard. My weight is on-point – as it should be – I’ve made all the check-weights, and everything is going really well, absolutely everything.

“Everything is flowing, nothing is out of place and I’ve had more rounds of sparring for this fight than probably the last three or four combined – it has been sensational.

“There has been not one corner cut shy in the prep for this.”

Allan, who runs Rivals Gym in Wishaw, added: “This puts me in the top 10 ranking in the world, that’s absolutely huge, and ... let’s just say the BBBC world title is being fought for soon and there’s a call-off, this would put me in contention.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not at that level, but if the opportunity arises, anything can happen.

“I’ve got my sights set highly on that British title, that’s the ultimate aim, and I’m hoping this can open the door for me to get into the British title.

“Obviously I would be very silly to overlook Marcel Braithwaite, and that’s one thing we’re definitely not doing.

“But I am only thinking about the WBC International title next Saturday and then we can deal with whatever else happens after that.

“I need to deal with the task at hand first, but it would be an outstanding opportunity.”
