Waysiders/Drumpellier 'frustrated' after second league points deduction

Waysiders/Drumpellier lost the four points they gained from last week’s win over Uddingston after only 10 players were available for their Tennent’s West League 1 clash at Clydebank.

That’s seven points the Langloan side have been docked for unavailability this season, leaving them on -1 at the foot of the table.

General manager Gerry Brankin was frustrated, but says he can’t be angry about the situation until he learns the reasons.

He said: “The four we got last week were taken straight back off us.

“I don’t know what it was but we ended up with nine or 10 players, predominantly backs, but I don’t know what the excuses were.

“It’s disappointing and it’s frustrating, that’s seven points we’ve lost this season, but I can’t really say I’m angry about it because I don’t know the full circumstances.

“There will be genuine reasons; we’ve had a couple of our younger key players who have only played maybe one game this season because of injury.

“There’s nothing you can do if they have injuries, we don’t have a big enough squad that we can carry them.

“I think we’re now at the stage where we just need to try and hold on for the rest of the season.”

W/D now face a derby clash at home to Dalziel, but Brankin is confident – if they can get a team together.

He said: “That will be a tough one, even though their results aren’t particularly going their way.

“If we can get the squad that we had against Uddingston then we’ll give them a game of it.”
