Wayne Routledge confirms his time as a Swansea City player is over

Swansea City legend Wayne Routledge has played his last game at the club after turning down a new contract.

The 36-year-old scored 33 goals in over 300 games for the club, spending 10 years at SA1.

Swansea announced that they had offered the winger a new deal, despite him being sidelined with a serious knee injury that he sustained during last season's play-offs.

But, posting on social media, Routledge revealed his time as a player at the club has come to an end, though he did hint at a new role.

"Obviously this has been a long time coming," said Routledge.

"I thought I would let you know that my time as a player at Swansea City has come to an end.

"I have loved every minute of it. The only thing I wish is that I had more time to do it.

"I have loved playing in front of everybody. I have loved my time at the Liberty and more importantly I have loved all the love I have received being in Swansea.

"It's not the end. I'll be around in some capacity but, for now, it's more of a see you later."

Routledge was signed by Brendan Rodgers in 2011 following the club's promotion to the Premier League.

His final appearance for the club came in the second leg of last year's play-off semi-final against Barnsley, a game in which he was stretchered off after suffering a knee ligament injury.
