Wayne Rooney vs. Yakubu and a centre-back dilemma - who makes your best Everton XI under David Moyes?

This week marks a decade since David Moyes’ long tenure as Everton manager came to an end and to mark the occasion we want to know who would make it into your all-time Blues XI under the Scot.

Appointed in March 2002 when he was still only 38, Moyes was in charge at Goodison Park for over 11 years – the second longest continuous reign in the club’s history after Harry Catterick – and over that period he steered Everton to their highest-ever Premier League finish of fourth (in 2004/05). That was one of nine top half finishes under Moyes – the Blues had just one in the first decade of the Premier League before he arrived – and they never came lower than eighth across his last seven seasons before he left for Manchester United.

Back in 2009, the year he guided the club to their only cup final since 1995, Moyes proclaimed: “Everton will win a trophy soon, that is for sure,” but while there remains great disappointment that he was unable to fulfil that pledge, the Blues’ subsequent struggles have put his achievements into perspective. Much of his relative success was down to the personnel that he deployed and throughout his time on Merseyside there were many talented individuals to turn out for the club.

To get you started, the ECHO’s Everton reporter Chris Beesley has picked his line-up HERE but who gets your selection though? We’ve given you a squad of 29 Everton players from the David Moyes era to choose from and come up with your ultimate team.
