The birthday wishes came flooding in for Kai including from a fan who told Wayne: "Lucky to have 4 healthy lovely boys xxx"
"Beautiful," said another follower.
Wayne and his wife Coleen both wished their son a happy birthday with the same photo of the young footballer grinning in a matching navy Icon top and cap.
"Happy Birthday @kairooney.10. Love you," wrote Red Devils record scorer Wayne.
And Coleen said: ""Happy Birthday @kairooney10. Love you so much."
Coleen also uploaded a photo of Kai and his brothers at home standing around his birthday cake shaped like a pair of red football boots.
Wayne commented: "What a wonderful boy. Happy 12th birthday. We LOVE you."
Kai is following in his famous father's footsteps as he signed for Manchester United last December.
At the time Wayne, who scored 253 goals in 559 games for United, the most of any player to wear the red shirt, shared a picture of his son putting pen to paper as his doting parents looked on.
He wrote: "Proud day. Kai signing for @ManUtd. Keep up the hard work son."
Kai was Rooney's first son with Coleen, born on November 2 2009.
The couple also have three younger sons Klay, eight, Kit, five, and Cass, three.
