Wayne Rooney splashing out £150,000 on walk-in wine room in new £20m mansion

Come on you Reds... and Whites!

Wayne Rooney is splashing out £150,000 on a walk-in wine room in his huge new mansion.

Plans show he is having the room, complete with a bar, installed on the lower ground floor of the £20million home he and wife Coleen are having built in Cheshire.

And Wayne, 34, won’t have far to go to stock up – he has one of the UK’s top wine merchants on his doorstep.

The ex-England and Man Utd legend, now at Derby County, is famed for his love of plonk and once infamously washed down cake for his 28th birthday with a £2,000 bottle of exclusive Chateau Petrus.

His wine room will be climate controlled, subtly lit and have tiers of drawers and shelves for his collection.

Work on the 120-acre estate was halted by the lockdown but when Wayne finally moves in with Coleen, 34, and their four boys he will be able to order more supplies from nearby premium drinks firm, Hammonds.

Style mag Livingetc has described a walk-in wine room as “the ultimate at the top of our wish list”.

Wayne and wife Coleen purchased their Cheshire farm and 120 acres of land three years ago for £4.3 million.

Builders have now built a giant home in its place and it is estimated the estate will be worth around £20 million when it is finished

The ex-England skipper and Coleen had hoped to move into the lavish new later this year but builders have only just picked up tools again after being laid off at the start of the coronavirus lockdown.
