Wayne Rooney speaks out on Everton problems with Merseyside derby prediction

Former Everton striker Wayne Rooney has given his view on the current situation at Goodison Park.

The Blues suffered a dismal 4-1 defeat in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Demarai Gray’s consolation goal provided the only form of comfort for Everton at Goodison Park, with Everton now on a run of eight matches without a win.

The defeat led to many Everton supporters expressing their displeasure towards the director’s box at Goodison at full-time.

Manager Rafa Benitez has also come under pressure following the club’s recent form, with one bookmaker already paying out on him being the next Premier League boss to lose his job.

Rooney had two spells as a player at Everton, and is now in football management with Championship strugglers Derby County.

The former Blues striker has acknowledged the difficulty of Everton’s current predicament, but believes that his old club will bounce back in the near future.

"Listen, there is always a reaction when you lose the derby,” said Rooney in his pre-match press conference.

“Obviously it was a disappointing result for Everton and I am sure, as we have seen often, there will be a lot of speculation around that but they have to just regroup.

“They are in a difficult period, get through it, and I am sure they will."
