Wayne Rooney set to pocket around £21million after liquidating image rights company

Wayne Rooney is set to pocket around £21million after liquidating his image rights company.

A declaration signed by the England legend this month reports an expected £20,849,000 payout from the closure.

The assets are made up of £1m in property, £8.9m in investments, plus £11.9m in monies owed to the firm, which is a total of £21.8m.

But they are offset by liquidation costs estimated at £30,000, £200,000 due to HM Revenue & Customs, plus £750,000 in other undisclosed bills, leaving £20,849,000.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne, now manager of Derby County, set up the business in 2006.

“All debts will be paid in full and money will be returned to shareholders.”

Wayne, 35, who has four sons with wife Coleen, owns the company thanks to his 100% holding of the share capital, so the monies owed are due to him.

Earlier this year, it emerged he deferred a portion of his wages – thought to be around £90,000-a-week – to Derby players who were not paid in December on time.

The Championship club was struggling financially while waiting for a takeover.

Winding down the image rights company is part of a “natural transition” from player to coach, experts say.

Rights include anything about a player, his face, voice, autograph, even a squad number.
