Wayne Rooney's predicted Derby County line-up to face Nottingham Forest

The second East Midlands derby of the season between Nottingham Forest and Derby County is almost here.

The Reds and the Rams lock horns at Pride Park on Friday night.

Both sides endured torrid starts to the season and looked like relegation candidates.

But under their new managers, Chris Hughton and Wayne Rooney, both have risen up the Championship table in recent weeks.

Steve Nicholson, Rams writer for our sister website DerbyshireLive, assesses the team Rooney could name for the big game:

Rooney went in with three centre backs and wing backs against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday. Despite being one up at half time, he was not happy with the way things were going and made changes.

On came wide attackers Martyn Waghorn and Kamil Jozwiak, and Derby reverted to a back four and more of a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 shape.

Derby won 2-0, a fourth consecutive home win, a sixth victory in eight games and a ninth clean sheet in the last 16 league fixtures.

George Edmundson and Teden Mengi give Rooney the option to go three at the back, and Edmundson played well in the first half against Huddersfield and scored before he was replaced at half time due to the tactical switch. The other player to make way at the break was Gregory, who had partnered Colin Kazim-Richards up front in the first half.

The first-choice back four at present is Andre Wisdom and Matt Clarke at centre back, and Nathan Byrne and Lee Buchanan the full backs.

In midfield, Graeme Shinnie and Jason Knight provide the energy and snap, while Rooney has been pleased with Max Bird's form.

Waghorn's contribution after coming off the bench against Huddersfield could see him start.

Predicted Rams line-up: Marshall; Byrne, Wisdom, Clarke, Buchanan; Knight, Bird, Shinnie, Waghorn, Kazim-Richards, Jozwiak.
