Wayne Rooney reveals desire to make further Everton return - and what future could hold

Wayne Rooney has revealed he still has a desire to potentially return to Everton once more, but this time as a coach.

The striker made his long-awaited return to Goodison Park in the summer of 2017, but endured a difficult season under Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce as the Blues struggled to an eighth-place finish.

The following transfer window saw Rooney cut his Everton return short and complete a transfer to DC United, where he thrived in helping the MLS side off the bottom of the table and into the playoffs.

However, the 33-year-old is already looking ahead to the future and admitted he would love to come back to the Blues once more in a coaching capacity.

"There's Everton and Manchester United, either of those two would be nice," Rooney told Eddie Hearn's No Passion, No Point .

“You love your family unconditionally. It’s like that with Everton.

"Everton is the team I'll always love, that I grew up supporting. I went to all the games, when they got to the FA Cup final against Chelsea I was playing for Man United, they actually beat us in the semi final!

"I went to watch them, that's in you.

"They're the two teams I'll always want to win."

Rooney doesn't believe he will play in England again, but will assess his future after his contract with the MLS side expires in two years' time.

He added: "I'm good, I've got two years after this year and then depending how I feel at the end of it will determine if I keep playing or not.

"No, I'll finish my career here and then see what offers come up.

"When I finish playing my aim is to go straight into coaching, at whatever level. We'll see what opportunities come up."
