Wayne Rooney pictures: Police say they are not investigating hotel room snaps

Police are not investigating any alleged crimes in relation to pictures of Wayne Rooney taken at the weekend.

The former England striker was pictured surrounded by scantily-dressed women as he slept in a hotel room in Manchester following a night out.

It was earlier reported the matter had been reported to officers, but a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police today confirmed: "There is no police involvement at this time."

The ex-United star had partied with the girls in a VIP area at the exclusive Chinawhite club in Manchester.

Rooney was consoling himself after Derby lost 2-1 away to Salford in a pre- season friendly on Saturday.

The pictures showed the married dad of four passed out in a chair as the girls danced around in their underwear at a £60-a-night hotel.

One flashed her bottom next to the retired England striker — then posted it online, captioning it “Mooney Rooney”.

Photos of one sitting with Rooney on a couch were posted to her 13,000 Instagram followers.

One image showed Rooney wearing a black hoodie and jeans and waving his arm in the air while holding a glass of wine. After Rooney fell asleep, the girls started to play pranks.

One of the images shows one of the girls posing in a G-string and baring her bottom next to Rooney’s head. Another shows one of the girls giving a peace sign next to Rooney while the other lies on the bed in her underwear with the caption ‘Sleepy Wayne’.

In one of the images early morning sunshine streams through the window.

Rooney then reportedly left the Staycity complex ‘angry’ after he woke up.

After the pictures emerged on social media Rooney turned to old friend and crisis management expert Ian Monk.

He told media organisations through Liverpool based lawyers that Rooney feared a ‘sting’, ‘criminal conduct’ and that the matter had been reported to Greater Manchester Police.

Wayne was said to be angry that they had taken photos of him asleep and complained to Greater Manchester Police amid fears he had been ‘set up’.

But despite Rooney’s representatives claiming they had made a complaint, Greater Manchester Police could find no sign of any such report.

Yesterday(mon) 24 hours later a Greater Manchester Police official force spokeswoman said: “We are not aware that this has been reported to police. There is no police involvement at this time.”

There was no suggestion Rooney did anything untoward or behave inappropriately.

Rooney, dad to Kai, 11, Klay, eight, Kit, five, and Cass, three, has been in the dog house with Coleen for a series of drunken scandals.

In 2017, he was driving Laura Simpson home when he was nicked for drink-driving at 2am after a ten-hour booze session.

In 2019, the then-DC United player was arrested for being drunk in public when he set off a security door alarm at a US airport after a booze and sleeping pill mix left him “disoriented”.
