Wayne Rooney has handed a career lifeline to former Manchester United prospect Ravel Morrison by allowing him to train with Derby County in pre-season.
Morrison, 28, came through the ranks at Old Trafford while Rooney was still a United star, but he is currently without a club after a difficult few years.
The former United youngster has been without a team since leaving Dutch side ADO Den Haag in January, his 11th club since leaving Manchester only nine years ago.
Now the Jamaica international is being given the chance to train with Derby in pre-season as he plots his next move at a crucial stage in his career.
Derby are currently working under strict transfer restrictions amid ongoing off-pitch issues, but that doesn't mean a move for free agent Morrison is totally out of the question.
He will be given the opportunity to stay fit throughout the summer and could even be in attendance when Rooney's side host United in a pre-season friendly at Pride Park this weekend.
United begin the first of five summer friendlies on Sunday lunchtime when they travel to Derbyshire for the first match since Europa League final defeat against Villarreal back in May.
