Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United will win the Premier League title and believes Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba will be vital to their chances.
United sit top of the Premier League table after beating Fulham 2-1 on Wednesday night, with a screamer from Paul Pogba proving to be the winning goal.
The Frenchman has been in fantastic form in 2021 and scored the winner in two of United's last three matches.
That has eased the burden on Bruno Fernandes, whilst Edinson Cavani also scored on his return to the side at Craven Cottage.
Asked about his former club's title hopes, Rooney said he believes they will win the league.
"It’s the first time in a few years where you can see Manchester United feel they can win this league and I believe they can," said Rooney, who was appointed as permanent Derby County manager last week. "Six weeks ago I said to the coaches in the office here that I felt United would win the league - I still feel that today. When I watch them they excite me.
"Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani, with their winning mentalities, have helped massively, and Paul Pogba will have a big part to play.
"The players with winning mentalities will relieve a bit of the pressure on Paul so he can show his quality on the pitch. They’ve got very talented players and they have a very good game plan going into games.
"I thought they deserved to beat Liverpool at Anfield recently. With a little bit more care with the final pass, Marcus Rashford would have been clean through two or three times."
