Wayne Rooney makes Liverpool vs Everton prediction ahead of Merseyside Derby

Former Everton striker Wayne Rooney has provided his verdict on the upcoming match between his old side and rivals Liverpool on Wednesday.

Despite leaving his hometown club in 2004 for Manchester United, Rooney never lost his love for Everton and returned back in 2017 for one season.

Rooney has since starred in Major League Soccer for D.C. United but now he is back in England with Derby County ahead of beginning his stint there next month.

With the 34-year-old back on the radar on these shores, it seems we might be getting the odd prediction here and there from the former England star.

Potentially the first of many came on an episode of Back of the Net on Amazon Prime, with Rooney unsurprisingly favouring his former team somewhat.

"I think Everton will get a draw. The way it has been going has been tough. I think they’ll pull together," Rooney said.

"It’s a massive game for the city and, if Everton win, it could stop Liverpool winning the title."

Rooney also touched on his memories of playing in the Everton first-team when he was still a teenager before he left for United.

He added: "I’ve always been confident. The minute I got into Everton’s first team I knew I was the best player. That’s not me being cocky. We just had a very bad team at the time!"
