Wayne Rooney lifts lid on Sir Alex Ferguson's most common Man Utd team-talk

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is considered one of the greatest managers of all-time.

The Scot inspired the Red Devils to an unprecedented spell of success including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League wins during his historic reign.

Many of his triumphs were driven by inspirational team-talks - but club record goalscorer Wayne Rooney has revealed how he often kept things simple.

Having put together many sides filled with remarkable levels of talent, Rooney has lifted the lid on how his message was often as straight forward as telling his team they were better than the opposition and urging them to prove it on the pitch.

Writing in his Sunday Times column, Rooney revealed: "He was incredible. It wasn't complicated.

"The big thing was he had trust in people. He trusted his coaches to put sessions on, he trusted his players.

"People always ask how were his team talks - a lot of his team talks were just, 'You 11 are better than them. Go win the game.'"

Rooney also compared the managers he spent time with at Manchester United , declaring he would love to mix several aspects of Louis Van Gaal, Ferguson and Jose Mourinho to become the perfect manager.

"(Louis) Van Gaal's preparation, Fergie's man-management, (Jose) Mourinho's stubbornness - I think sometimes you need that," he said.

Rooney recently discussed Ferguson's role in the dressing room and how he would take a different role with different players.

"He would have a go at me for dribbling," Rooney said. "I very rarely dribble... well, I dribbled a bit more then... but (with) Nani, it would just maybe trigger something in (his) head, thinking, 'Oh maybe I shouldn't dribble as much'.

"He knew how to get that message across without being... without losing it. If he spoke to Nani the way he spoke to me, he'd break down in tears. He wouldn't be able to go back out!"
