Wayne Rooney drops verdict on Marcus Rashford’s second chance at Man United

  • Wayne Rooney has stated that Marcus Rashford remains the only player capable of breaking his all-time goalscoring record of 253 goals for Manchester United, provided the forward demonstrates the right hunger and desire.
  • The 28-year-old England international looks set for a second act at Old Trafford and is currently featuring in Michael Carrick’s pre-season preparations after Barcelona opted against making his loan move permanent.
  • Rashford, who currently sits 15th in United’s historical goalscoring chart with 138 strikes, last featured for the club in December 2024 after falling out of favour under then-manager Ruben Amorim prior to loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona.
  • Speaking on his new podcast Stick to United , Rooney advised Rashford to rebuild his relationship with the Old Trafford supporters by drastically improving his body language, work rate, and overall focus.
  • Rooney emphasised that he wants to see the Manchester-born attacker succeed at Manchester United rather than elsewhere, adding that Rashford must surround himself with trusted people and work tirelessly to get his career back on track.
