Wayne Rooney does the 10-year challenge to show how his life has changed since 2009

As we say goodbye to the 'twenty tens' the #10yearchallenge has been doing the rounds on social media, and Wayne Rooney has joined in.

The former Manchester United player has shared photos side-by-side on social media showing how life has changed for him over the past decade - and the most noticeable change is that his family has doubled in size.

In the first photo Wayne , 34, poses with his wife Coleen and their eldest son Kai and in the second the Reds legend, now sporting a beard, smiles for the camera with Coleen, 33, and their four boys Kai, who is now 10, Klay, six, Kit, three and Cass, 22 months.

Wayne and his wife, who married in 2008, are making a new start in the UK after moving back from the United States as Wayne prepares to become player-coach at Derby County in the new year.

The former United captain left boyhood club Everton for Washington DC club DC United last summer and took his family with him.

"Superb and i am sure a couple will grace the premier league in years to come," said another.

Fellow former United star Rio Ferdinand, who got married in September to former The Only Way is Essex star has also done the challenge.

He tweeted: "2010 vs 2019.

"The new decade is nearly here... & the hairline is still going strong #NewYearChallenge."

"Building your little football team Rooney??!!" one follower joked.
