Wayne Rooney disputes Jurgen Klopp claim and makes Liverpool Premier League title prediction

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes Liverpool could set a new era of dominance in the Premier League, but on one condition.

The Reds are currently 22 points clear at the top of the league standings, and have nine matches remaining to pick up the six points that they need to secure the title.

Should it happen, it would be Liverpool’s first top flight title since 1990, and would surely elevate Jurgen Klopp to one of the club’s greatest ever managers.

Rooney, who has also been a nemesis of the Reds with his allegiances to United and Everton, believes Liverpool can repeat the dominance that the Red Devils did under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 34-year-old, who is currently captain of Championship outfit Derby County, reckons that were Klopp to remain at Anfield for the next decade then more trophies would surely follow.

“Liverpool’s squad is young and all the key players are tied down on long contracts. They have huge potential to win more trophies,” Rooney wrote in The Times.

“Klopp says it’s impossible for any club to dominate like United once did but he is wrong.

"There’s a simple way for Liverpool: let Klopp go on and on.

“United dominated because Fergie stayed so long. I think if Klopp, who is only 53, stayed at Anfield for the next ten years Liverpool would win at least five Premier League titles.
