Wayne Rooney confronted by Wembley pitch invader during England farewell

Wayne Rooney was confronted by a pitch invader during his last ever England appearance as the Three Lions cruised to a 3-0 friendly win over the USA at Wembley.

In a friendly which was dubbed the 'Wayne Rooney Foundation International', the country's leading cap winner and goalscorer came on to a hero's welcome in the 59th minute with the Three Lions already two goals to the good.

Just over 10 minutes later though, a pitch invader made a bee line for the former Manchester United captain, grabbing him by the arm before being escorted from the pitch by security staff.

There was to be no fairytale ending to an emotional evening for Rooney as drew a smart save out of USMNT goalkeeper Brad Guzan in injury-time, cracking a wry smile as he was denied a 54th England goal.

He then laid on a chance for Sancho but the Dortmund man blazed high over the bar before coming within inches of turning home a last-gasp cross.

Rooney shook hands with every player of the pitch before getting another round of applause from the Wembley crowd.
