Wayne Rooney blackmail probe sparked by '£10,000 or Coleen sees this' post

Wayne Rooney was reportedly asked for £10,000 to keep pictures of himself asleep in a hotel bedroom secret from his wife Coleen.

The photos which emerged at the weekend show former England star Wayne asleep fully clothed in a hotel room with three women.

Rooney’s lawyers contacted police after he was photographed in hotel with the group - reports Mirror Online.

Police are believed to have opened a blackmail probe over the Instagram message, which included one photo and a caption saying "Morning Wayne 10 grand please mate of Coleen sees this."

However, police today dropped the investigation and decided no offence had been committed.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "On Monday 26 July Cheshire Constabulary received reports of a possible blackmail relating to a number of images circulating online.

"Officers have spoken to the person involved and are satisfied that no offences have taken place.

"The person involved has also stated that they do not wish to take the matter any further."

There is no suggestion the women, who were seen joking around in the images, were knowingly involved in any criminal activity.

In one image a woman was pictured bending over beside the slumbering star, dressed only in her underwear, with the caption ‘Mooney Rooney’.

Another photo showed him dozing with the caption ‘Sleepy Wayne’ as a woman made a peace sign to the camera.

It is understood Rooney had earlier met model Tayler Ryan, Elise Melvin and Brooke Morgan, all aged 21, in the Chinawhite night club in Manchester.

He later joined the women, from Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, at their £60 a night hotel in the city.

After the photos of Rooney, apparently taken inside a bedroom at the budget hotel, were widely circulated on social media, the player’s legal team contacted Greater Manchester Police.

The case was passed to Cheshire Police and it is understood Derby County manager Rooney had spoken to officers.

On Monday a statement from Championship club Derby said: “Wayne Rooney informed the club yesterday that the pictures had emerged and that they had been taken without his knowledge or approval.”

The club said the matter had been reported to police who are investigating, adding: “While that remains the case, there will be no further comment.”

Rooney, 35, from Cheshire, was in charge of Derby as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Salford in a friendly on Saturday.

He was pictured back at the club’s training ground on Monday.

On the same day his wife, mum-of-four Coleen, 35, was on the beach in Abersoch, on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.

Coleen is believed to be on holiday in the exclusive seaside town with their sons Kai, 11, Klay, eight, Kit, five and Cass, three.
