Wayne Rooney believes Jurgen Klopp has made just one mistake in his career - managing Liverpool

Wayne Rooney believes Jurgen Klopp has made just one mistake in his career - managing Liverpool.

The former Manchester United and Everton striker, who is now plying his trade at DC United in the MLS, was full of praise for the German boss - but was clear that he'd rather Klopp was not in charge of the Reds.

Rooney's former clubs are staunch rivals of Liverpool and the frontman's allegiances could clearly be no further away from Anfield.

Klopp guided his side to Champions League victory last season while also commanding a sensational run in the Premier League to finish on 97 points and only narrowly missing out on the title by a point.

He will no doubt be hoping his side can go one better in the domestic competition next term while also defending their European Cup title.

Liverpool are preparing for the upcoming campaign by travelling to the United States for pre-season matches against Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting CP.

"Jurgen is a manager every player would love playing for," Rooney told Sport Bild.

"You can see how much fun his players have playing under him. I met him once, he is an amazing guy.

"His only mistake is that he works for LFC and is successful there.

"I have much respect for Jurgen Klopp and for what he already has achieved.

"Not only in Liverpool, but also in Dortmund.

"This guy really has it. And he has his best years still upon him."
